3MBefore I had this blog up and running, I was sharing pictures of food on my FB page and sometimes with recipes . This smoothie is one out of many pictures that I have posted without recipe and have been asked repeatedly from my followers to give recipe. I am so excited to share this recipe with you all today. It way to simple to make and looks super gorgeous.
Have you given a thought what smoothie really is?
Smoothie is a semi liquid drink made from blending fruit and/or raw vegetables in combination with liquid like water, fruit juice, plant milk, dairy milk, yogurt, ice cream or cottage cheese. There are so many variations to smoothies and you can really just plug and play around with ingredients to balance the flavors to your liking.
Generally, when you buy smoothie in any cafe/franchise, they put a bunch of ice and blend the ingredients together. But this recipe totally avoids ice but use naturally frozen fruits with loaded nutrients.
This is one of the many smoothies recipes I often make for my family. Loaded with antioxidants, nutrients and they are good for 2 minute breakfast as well.
Well, if you have a toddler who is a fussy eater then this could easily become one of their favorites.
Most importantly , freeze your fruits or vegetables before making smoothie , this gives the drink a nice texture without adding ice. I usually buy fruits in bulk then wash, dry and freeze them. It just gets handy and a quick turnaround ingredient for smoothie!
I love adding pink pitaya as it gives super stunning color to the drink and adds health benefits as well. Pink Pitaya is nothing but “dragon fruit” and not very easily available everywhere. Here in US each fruit costs about $4-6 depending on the weight. So buying the powder makes it much economical and beneficial. But if you live in an area where dragon fruit is grown , you should definitely use fresh fruit!
When we traveled to Southeastern countries especially in Thailand and Vietnam, we had lots of Pitaya’s and they are very sweet to eat and luxurious to look! Color of Pitaya varies from white to deep pink.. deeper the color sweeter the fruit and richer the antioxidants.
Tip: When you buy any fruit or veggies powder make sure they are organic.
In this recipe I have used frozen strawberries, Pitaya powder as my fruits, cucumber as my veggie, Oats and chia seeds for nutrients , yogurt as liquid base and maple syrup as sweetener. I have also used some fresh fruits and nuts as topping and served in a coconut bowl!
